The Dark Matter Series

In the modern day, not everything is as it appears. Paranormal occurrences and occult activities are becoming everyday happenings. These events are quickly hidden from public view by various world governments and other organizations who have neither the knowledge nor understanding of their significance. Doorways to other worlds are opening, and it’s up to the heroes of the Hoffmann Institute to determine friend from foe, good from evil, and conspiracy from happenstance.

The Hoffmann Institute deals in secrets. Its agents are used to that.

Twenty years ago, Jeane Meara met her birth mother. At least she thought she had. Now she’s learning that some of the darkest secrets lie closest to home.

Fifteen years ago, eight people vanished in Chicago — or did they? What motives lie in the mind of a madwoman? As Jeane unravels her life, her partners find themselves racing for the answers that will save others — including their own.

They’ll need Jeane’s help. And she’ll need theirs.

From The Undead Rat:
I believe that the Dark Matter game line and novel line was cancelled before this book could see print. It was available for puchase as an eBook on the Wizards of the Coast website for a while but that page seems to have been taken down.

Notes:

Based loosely upon the Dark Matter Campaign Setting (Alternity Role Playing Game), created by Wizards of the Coast.

I am currently uncertain whether the last book on the list (By Dust Consumed) was ever printed or merely proposed. Shortly after its release, Dark Matter Campaign Setting was ended when the entire Alternity Role-Playing Game was shut down to prepare for a new d20 line of games beginning with D&D and Star Wars.

Notes: Update

The Dark Matter role playing game will be released again in 2006 as a d20 Modern Campaign Handbook. I am uncertain at this time what that may mean for the novels.
